Another Sugar Maple
Monday, January 10, 2011
Things seem to be on the right track, shipping out whisky left and right...bottoms up guys, keep the liquor flowing.
Today it is snowing, time do some sippin' and reflectin'!
Here in the holler its the quiet beauty and cozy comfort of a deep winter's day that provides some time to kick off your boots and relax in your cozy chair next to a warm glowing fire... and possibly a Dickel in your hand.

Jammin' in the Holler
Our little town of Normandy in Bedford County Tn, hosted a concert by Country Music Artist Jamey Johnson on October 13, 2010.
The free concert was a fundraiser for the Normandy Volunteer Fire Department.
Normandy resident and business owner Nikki Mitchell is friends with Jamey and is one of the reasons Johnson agreed to perform here.
While in town Jamey was given a few tokens of appreciation, he was given a fireman's hat and was named honorary member of the Normandy Volunteer Fire Department and was also given some of Ol' George Dickel's Finest Sippin' Whisky by the Fire Department as well as by Lou, Dickel's own tour guide.
The concert was "awesome" and a total success with an estimated 3000+ in attendance, who knew Normandy could hold so many people.
Many Thanks go out to:
The Town of Normandy
The Normandy Volunteer Fire Department
The River Cafe
Jamey Johnson
Nikki Mitchell
And all those that made this a success!!!!!!!

Safety Cookout
From time to time the Dickel employees have a safety cookout. Each time this is done a new set of cooks are picked, on April 29, 2010, the foremans ( Brian, David and Donald) grilled some burgers and brauts, on the side they had potato salad, beans and all the fixin's. It was some really good eatin'.
I appreciate Mr. Lunn inviting me to be a part of this.

TN Turkey Season
We have been seeing about 14 gobblers (most with beards that look like paint brushes) and about 40 hens on a daily basis for quiet some time now. This may be due in part that the guards keep them plenty full by tossing them corn daily.
Every morning as we are measuring, cooking, fermenting and filling or emptying barrels we can hear the rumbles in the holler as the turkey come off roost and start gobbling and strutting.

Spring Forward.....
To some degree we may have Benjamin Franklin to thank for DST, who penned, "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."
With spring just a few days away and my body somewhat accustomed to DST, I am so ready for it.
Springtime in Tennessee is a leafy awakening, a riot of color rising to the occasion. Sometimes we feel the season before the warmth actually arives!!!!... Spring is seen as a time of growth, renewal and new life, ( a start of better times).

A New Year
Hard to believe its already 16 days into 2010, nothing much happenin', with all the holidays and deer season behind us. Although there are a few deer still hangin' aound the distillery.
We have had several days of snow and really low temps (even the Dickel Lake froze over), everything is tryin' to unthaw including me...
But we are anticipating the spring arrival of turkey season the 1st of April. The gobblers are already rumblin' the holler and struttin' their stuff.

Snow Dayz
Brrrrr....it's cold in the "holler", with temps being as low as 23 this past week.
On Saturday, December 5, 2009 at about 2:00 A.M., it started to snow (just a lite snow that is), but snowed until aound 6:00 A.M. Just enough for everything to be white. For the most part, it had melted off by afternoon.
But as of Sunday morning there was some snow still laying on the secluded hillsides, in our quaint "Cascade Hollow".
As the ol' folks in the "holler" used to say, "it's layin there waitin on some more".
